Under the pretext of progress, authorities from the three levels of government [federal, state and municipal] have joined with economic powers, mostly foreign, to steal resources, territories and the cultural heritage of dozens of indigenous peoples from Mexico with the construction of mega-projects, warned participants of the forum ‘Accounts of Dispossession: The Peoples’ Fight Against Mega-Projects, Central Region [of Mexico]’, which took place in the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Meanwhile, the People’s Front in Defense of Land and Water in Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala (Fpdtampt) and the representative from Citizens’ Movement, Ricardo Monreal, presented a resolution, which would be voted upon on May 21 in the plenary session of the Standing Committee of Congress, to urge the President, Enrique Peña Nieto, and the governors of the aforementioned states, to examine the documents on environmental impact of the Morelos Comprehensive Project (PIM) and to “suspend temporarily the carrying out of works, while they consult with the affected communities, and if an imminent risk is confirmed, cancel said plan permanently.”
